- I wanted to display the different properties of a material in a completely abstract way with no theme or link to anything else so that it does not bear any resemblance to something else on purpose. I like to work with a material exploring that material in an investigative way through a series of experiments. I have so far learnt how wax can be shaped and moulded in a range of ways: clay moulds, cutting and carving and melting. It interests me to see how wax can be so versatile and can be melted and reworked into something else.
- Rather than creating a sculpture, I think it would be intriguing to create an installation style piece of work by creating a space for the wax sculptures. Rather than filling out a room, at the moment I am interested in building my own space for the wax pieces and starting off by building a small wooden or metal box and working around a cubic shape to begin with and possibly blacking it out or also working the wax around the cube.
- Another element i intend to explore is light with wax. It would be fascinating to see how light affects the outcome of the wax sculptures and I intend to black out the spaces and then manipulate them with artificial light onto the wax. I almost imagine creating an experience of the material for observers whether they should walk around the material or look into the space of the material, this is undecided.
- Wax can take many forms, it can be hung from ceilings or worked around other objects. Also wax can be painted onto an object or another material such as plaster f paris which I am going to try with wax to create thin layers. This is so that the wax is transparent and an artificial light could be placed in the middle.
- There are different options of wax sculptures such as hanging wax in moulded sculptures from the ceiling in a blacked out rom with artificial light shining upwards. Also another option is to create circular hollow pieces of wax with light shining n it somehow without trying to melt the wax. The circular hollow shapes would have to be created through plaster of paris. Also another option is to create a cubic shape and to work around this with wax and having light inside or another option is to create a box like shape with wax sculptures inside and shining light onto this. Over time I want to build bigger boxes and to influence colours into this.

Dietrich Wegner
Wegner hangs objects so that people have to walk around the sculpture as it invades the space. It is even possible to walk inside the objects to fully experience the materials and its form which is an intriguing idea for wax. It would be interesting to hang wax sculptures from the ceiling so that people walk around them and experience it differently from simply observing something from a distance.
Henrique Oliveira
I like this artists work as it evokes many questions as to me it appears as a pictorial illusion. The artist uses wood to build up the texture creating a sculpture/painting. Some of his pieces are that large they take up an entire room creating an installation almost of the material. This inspires me to create more large scale sculptures and to also create an installation of the material constructing and reconstructing it.
Plan
My aim for this semester is to explore the material of wax. It will be an investigation into the properties of the material and creating abstract sculptures of wax. I am interested in influencing other properties and materials into the wax such as light and paint and discovering how wax reacts to other elements.
